Tlou Energy has a number of projects that are in different stages of development.

Gas-fired Electricity

Tlou Energy has a large gas field in Botswana with independently certified gas Reserves and Contingent Resources.

2P Gas Reserves: ~41 billion cubic feet (~6.8m BOE)
3P Gas Reserves: ~427 billion cubic feet (~73m BOE)
3C Contingent Resources: ~3,043 billion cubic feet (~500m BOE).

The first stage of development is a 10MW project with electricity to be sold to Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), the national power utility in Botswana. A power purchase agreement is in place with BPC, along with full environmental approval and a long-term production licence valid until 2042, which provides security of tenure for the Company.

Construction of a 66kV transmission line to connect the Lesedi Gas Project to the existing power grid has begun and expected to be completed in 2023. Post development of the first 10MW, the Company plans immediate expansion with the 66kV line capable of supporting up to 25MW of power.

Further expansion is anticipated via the supply of power to the Orapa Diamond Mine which requires up to 90MW of cleaner power to replace their current heavy reliance on coal and diesel generation. Virtually unlimited power demand exists in the region via the southern African power pool.

Ancillary projects include...

Solar Power

Plans are in place to develop a solar project in parallel with the gas-to-power project. The Company currently has environmental approval and has a solar generation licence. It is currently envisaged that 24-hour base-load can be provided via a combination of gas and solar. This will be a unique energy solution for the region and has major upside potential for expansion.

Tlou has a binding Heads of Agreement with Synergen Met to develop a hydrogen and solid carbon prototype. The Synergen Met process transforms Tlou’s gas to hydrogen and solid carbon or graphite with minimal greenhouse gas emissions.

Energy Marketing

Tlou has an initial Power Purchase Agreement for 10MW with Botswana Power Corporation. The transmission line connecting the Lesedi Power Project with the existing grid at Serowe will allow for up to an additional 15MW of energy to be available for sale.

Additional Opportunities

Tlou is exploring innovative ways of commercialising otherwise flared gas from the Company’s operations prior to using our gas for electricity generation and sale into PPA’s. The objective being to generate on-site cash flow with minimal capital expenditure as new wells are drilled and more gas flows as a result.
